Water, the moors, the ecosystem, the soils, the fog, are vital components. Today we are under threat from climate change that raises the temperature, feverish ecosystems and triggers the feared fires in the most secret, remote, high, cared for and protected places of our nature. We know little about the route of water, we know little about the encounter between the fog of the moors and the frailejones, plants that store and capture the water that goes through the air. It is the water we drink, it is 70% of our water in Colombia, it comes from these moors located 3,000 meters above sea level. The threat to these vital systems is in the hands of man, in his appropriation of these areas for other crops, for the felling of trees, planting of other non-native species, bringing in cattle breeding, causing fires. It is a violence that is exerted over time, which we feel in its temperature, exhausting the vital resource and producing thirst. The plants of the frailejones constitute a tissue for years of storage and irrigation. It is a plant that we should call sacred and untouchable because it contains the human vital option like no other.
Fever is a work where I approach the wasteland with a rhythm where I establish these times of risk to show, through the crossings and encounters of image and sound, the critical and avoidable events. This project as an artistic intervention warns of the slow and lasting degradation of the processes in ruin, of the landscapes in the hands of man, bringing these images closer as stories that we let forget, that we make invisible due to the daily urgency without identifying that in these events environmental violence is rooted from its economic and political conflicts.
